To the north of the province of Barcelona
is la Costa de Maresme (the Coast of the swamp). This coast is
almost entirely lined with long beaches, washed by crystal waters
and marked by cliffs. It enjoys a mild, temperate climate.
Places of cultural interest
include archaeological sites in Burriac and Mataró, the Baroque
architecture in Arenys de Mar and Modernism in Canet and Argentona.
Other tourist centres include Malgrat, Arenys de Mar, Sant Andreu de
LLavaneras and Alella. Calella de la Costa y El Masnou are blue flag
beaches. Other tourist beaches: Pineda, Sant Pol de Mar, Caldes de
Estrac, Vilassar de Mar and Premiá de Mar.
